What happens when you have to learn the hard way rather than listening to those much wiser than ourselves.

When I was  a young man
didn’t care what they said .
Grew my hair really long then
spent most the day in my bed.
Only time I would get up
was to toke on a smoke.
Told my parents just to shut up
thought it was a big joke.
Then one day I got a letter said I didn’t know why,
next I’m  off to camp Lejuene, I didn’t know they could make me cry.
Now I stay awake all day, and for most of the night .
So you back here in the  u.s. ,probably wont have to fight.
We have to do this for freedom ,or at least that’s what we are told .
I hope I make it through this tour of mine ,so that I can grow old .
Now two weeks left, call me short time, pretty soon going home.
back to a place, down in New Orleans buy the silver dome.
I’ll make sure I tell my parents, that they were always right,
I’ll never tell them to shut up again ,and then I’ll try to make things right .
