A trick-or-treater’s night of candy fun, and scares for his friends. Happy Halloween!

HALLOWEEN FRIGHT
‘Twas a night full of mist,
And clouds blocked the moon,
Wind, still and waiting,
To howl at you soon;
The block full of houses,
No light could be seen,
Just one little porch lamp,
On this Halloween;
The kids and their bags,
Edged t’wards the light,
When a large jack-o-lantern,
Roared into life;
Screaming and running,
The kids all took flight,
Except one little waif,
Not scared on this night!
Approaching the porch,
On which lamp was lit,
He reached for the doorbell,
His candy to get;
A squeaky, eerie doorway,
Loomed out of the dark,
A voice like thunder,
Lightning, and spark!
Said, “Who goes there, boy?”
“Trick or treat!”, the lad did say,
The strange voice answered,
“Well done! You may!”
From recesses dark a hand did emerge,
Gnarled, and wrinkly, and looking obscene,
Into the boy’s sack the candy did go,
The voice then said, “Happy Halloween!”
