Some hallucinogens or "mind-manifesting" drugs are used for medicinal purposes.

Common hallucinogenic drugs

Are marijuana, psilocybin

And LSD

These drugs are known

As psychedelic drugs

That were very popular

In the 1960s

During the “Hippie generation”

- – -

Of these marijuana

Is the mildest

And is known

For its calming effects

Some persons smoke

This “weed”

That suffer from chronic pain

- – -

Some doctors prescribe it

And some states

Have passed legislation

Legalizing it

As a drug

- – -

Psilocybin and LSD

When used

May show rapid

Alpha brain waves

In individuals

With an increase

In heart rate

- – -

A “trip” is not always pleasant

But with the most potent

LSD

Some users describe

Glorious scenes

Of floating through clouds

Being at one with multicolored

Lights

And encountering the beauty

Of heavenly forces

- – -

While on this drug

With REM sleep

A person is observed

To have

Intense brain waves

And extraordinary

Physiological responses

Another great poem. I do not know much about drugs so this was an education to me!

  • mphsglo on Oct 6, 2011

Drugs weren’t mean to be terrible, it’s the way they are misused that makes them so terrible. Very good information.

    I like it.

Seriously if any drug promises that extraordinary sensations, everyone would love to have it, provided it doesn’t have harmful effects!

Excellent shout! What is the point of living without knowing what we’re doing or what’s happening to us?

  • Nxwtypx on Oct 6, 2011

Agreed with mphsglo – these are for the few, and not the masses.

I learned I was one of the masses.

    An educational poem,indeed!

That’s the good side of those drugs, but I think the negative effects far outweigh the good ones. People should avoid using addictive drugs altogether.

when you take LSD or something similar you go intro your subconsciousness and it is not always pleasant experience, that is why there are bad “trips”

and that is why I never tried any of these.

I have led sort of a sheltered life, so this is educational for me. But, I do have children so I need to be aware of what is out there. Good post.

I don’t need to take drugs to hallucinate, I have a vivid imagination. Nice share. Love your poems.

Marijuana can help to reduce brain tumours too.
