A poem from three different prospectives about a woman lost in an automobile accident.
Happy Tears
Chapter one
She looks around, she wonders
She is lost and confused
She thinks hard, she ponders
She stares down at her shoes
Where had she been, how did she get here
Her body trembles and shakes
Her sight is blurry, Nothing’s clear
She needs to put on her brakes
But she’s on foot, not in a car
She frowns at her expression
She looks to the heavens, to the stars
As if asking a question
Not realizing, not knowing
She carefully looks ahead
She has no idea where she is going
She’d rather be home instead
Then she wonders where that might be
As she continues to walk
It’s so dark she can barely see
Yet she ceases to halt
She then realizes she is being guided
By a man holding her hand
She doesn’t feel the need to fight it
Although she doesn’t understand
Is she so crazy
That she thought she was alone
Was everything so hazy
Or was her mind truly gone
Either way, she’s back now
No need to be alarmed
She can tell by his touch
That he means her no harm
She looks up to the man
“Where are we going?”
“Half the fun you understand,
Is the surprise of not knowing.”
He winks at her and smiles
Then she smiles right back
She could walk with him for miles
And never look back.
Chapter two
He stares at his baby
As she lays in the hospital bed
That’s his life, his lady
Hanging on by a thread
He wipes away new tears
As he clutches her hand
They’ve been together for years
He does not understand
How a woman so strong
Could look so weak
He hopes it will not be long
Before his baby girl speaks
He thinks about that morning
When he walked out the door
Did he tell her that he loved her
Like all the mornings before
Of course he did, Did he kiss her
Did he touch her beautiful face
Did he tell her he would miss her
Yearning for her sweet embrace
He knows he can’t go back
And make her not get in the car
He has accepted the simple fact
That we are stuck right where we are
He wants to take the violence
He wants to take away her fear
He prays for her in silence
Because he knows the end is near.
Chapter three
He looks upon this child
She is a woman no more
He graces her with his smile
As he opens up the door
They walk through hand in hand
Her pain and fears are gone
She completely understands
Everything that’s going on
He is her father, He is the Father
He is here to take her home
She’s so happy, she’s so grateful
For the love that he has shown
She has known this day would come
But there’s no wings or pearly gates
There’s no bright light, there’s no tunnel
Just happiness awaits
He releases her with a sigh
Even the Lord sheds happy tears
She turns and waves goodbye
And slowly disappears.
