The hare and tortoise

Are creatures with

Distinct personalities

With long hind legs

And is known for his 

Speed and ability to leap

Turtle that is slow

And vulnerable

It however have a thick

Shell in which to retreat

When threatened

As the story goes

The hare and the tortoise

Raced over a long distance

The hare like an American

Known for his speed and agility

In most things, built up

A considerable lead

Leaving the tortoise far behind

The American so sure of himself 

Decided to take a nap

And as he napped the tortoise

Caught up and passed him

To win the race

I think that story 

Got it very wrong

An American hardly takes naps

He’s always on the move

Fast, agile, and creative

It would be the American

That would have won the race

Leaving the tortoise way behind

Afterwards, because of his altruism

He would have returned

To help the plodding turtle

Across the finish line
