In the generations before me and alot of others, a mans word was as good as a promiose. You could believe what what said and not have to worry.Today it seems, that same honest value had diminished over time. There are still honest folks left, but we are outnumbered.

When Harry met Jane he was in love instantly,

all he saw was her blond hair and blue eyes.

But if he really looked at Jane really closely,

she had light brown hair and light green eyes.

****

Sam and Tammy met at a dance one evening,

they ended up in a hotel room that morning.

But his wife and children kept calling his cell,

him being married was never told to Tammy.

****

****

Shannon was two timing on her new boyfriend,

sleeping with him and his best friend Tommy.

Now Shannon is three months pregnant again,

her new boyfriend thinks that he’s the father.

****

You lose your job because you smoked marijuana,

now you get six hundred dollars in food stamps.

But you are also working a job under the table,

funny, I doubt your caseworker is aware of that.

****

Bill and Marie had talked about reconciliation,

trying to put things back together as they once was.

But Bill neglected to mention one huge thing though,

he already had another girlfriend in the shadows.

****

We had a governor here in Illinois that was impeached,

he was trying to sell the senate seat that Obama vacated.

To this day this governor will proclaim his innocence,

didn’t Richard Nixon say the same thing about Watergate?

****

Honesty used to be something a man said and meant it,

but now I think it going extinct like the dinosaurs did.

But if people of any nation can’t be honest anymore,

it will be hard to believe what anyone has to say at all.

I completely agree with your sentiments here and one of the worst things is how they lie while looking you square in the eye.

I think maybe you’re looking through the past with rose-tinted spec’s to say there USED to be a sense of honesty. I don’t think there ever was.
    Nice piece though.

Nicely written payge, it is quite sad that this is often the case.
