This made me laugh yesterday when Actress Joanna Lumley put the Minister of Immigration on the spot, regarding the Gurkhas. I felt it was a great victory for her and these people who fought for this country. This influenced me to writing this poem.

It has been a battle since the World War Two

Where the Gurkha army have fought for Britain.

Yet by many Governments naming but a few,

a denial of citizenship ministers still maintain.

*************

Until it took an Actress to make a stand

for her father and other brave Gurkha’s who fought

for Britain to remain a free and promising land

now against our Government betrayers of some sort

*************

The uncomfortable Immigration Minister we all see

standing next to the actress in public and total dismay

agreeing with her that the Gurkha’s get residency

after they got their letters saying they couldn’t stay

*************

The Prime Minister denied all knowledge of what went on

unaware of the letters that told the brave men sorry

for you are not wanted here said head of immigration

It is obvious they prefer migrants from a back of a lorry.

*************

The Actress spoke with dignity as an MP and democrat

with the meeting she had with the Minister agreeing

they would be treated fairly and that was that

But you could see his MP eyes, they were reeling

*************

Looking at the ceiling thinking what have I done

is it me next with with my head for the chop

and has our actress shown the strength and actually won

The final Battle for the Gurkha’s that they may stop

*************

In a country they have fought for, many giving their lives

for an eventual bunch of idiots to kick them out now

through a lack of communication out come the knives

Stabbing loyal servants in the back and causing a row.

*************
