Cindy saw an abortion as the only way out of her dilemma but Leslie wanted her to have their baby. She however changed her mind at the last minute, while she and her mother were at the doctor’s office to have the procedure.

Leslie is paralyzed

From his waist down

Because of a football

Injury

- – -

He broke up

With his girlfriend Jeannie

Because he was embarrassed

Jeannie attended school

At William and Mary

Where she earned a degree

In psychology

- – -

With Leslie undergoing

Physical therapy

His range of motion

Began to improve

And he gained

Some of his confidence back

- – -

One of Leslie’s playing buddies

Invited him to his birthday party

And for the first time

He decided to attend a social function

Although he was

Somewhat hesitant

- – -

While he was there

He felt uncomfortable

Being in a wheel chair

But Cindy, a petite blond

One of his admirer’s

From Kempsville High

Was quick to approach him

And began to make small talk

- – -

Leslie didn’t know what to make

Of her advances

Cindy, on the other hand

Was aware of his accident

But was more interested

In whether he was still going out

With Jeannie

- – -

Leslie assured her

That they had broken up

And that he wanted some time

To think his future through

Leslie though couldn’t resist

His attraction for Cindy

But didn’t let it on

- – -

By the time the party

Was in full swing

And he had a few bottles

Of bud lite

His perception of Cindy

Had become more amorous

- – -

He wanted to see her again

Cindy gave him her number

And a whirlwind relationship

Began

- – -

Leslie and Cindy were passionate

About each other

Their romance moved quickly

From first base to the ultimate

And after about eight weeks

Cindy revealed to Leslie

She was pregnant

And the baby was his

- – -

At first, Leslie took it hard

He had no job

But was on disability

He didn’t know that it was

Possible for him to impregnate

A woman because of his disability

- – -

Afterwards, he became happy

And rejoiced at the fact

That he would be a father

- – -

“Not so fast,” said Cindy, “I’m

too young to have this baby.  I’m

beginning to feel weird and I’ve to do

something about this.”

- – -

Leslie tried to persuade Cindy

To have his child

But she would have nothing

To do with that

- – -

He invited her to dinner

To make his case

“Look,” he said, “shouldn’t it be

both of our decision.  Imagine

in you, are a tiny heart and brain,

two tiny eyes and feet, how can

we do away with such a being.

God have mercy!”

- – -

Cindy was moved to tears

And said, “I’m only 19, what

will my future be?  I haven’t

even attended college.  Is this fair

on me?

- – -

“Cindy,” Leslie pleaded, “I thought

that I’d never become a father.  There was

no hope for me, now look at what has happened?

It’s a blessing.  Please have my baby”

- – -

“I’ve to see someone,” said Cindy, “my parents

can’t know about this and I need a few hundred

dollars”

- – -

Leslie was sad

Because he was unable to persuade

Her to keep their child

And after much agonizing

Decided to give her some money

- – -

Cindy was distraught

She finally was able to break the news

To her parents

That supported her decision

To have an abortion

But felt that she was

Quite irresponsible

- – -

Cindy’s mother accompanied her

To the doctor

They signed the necessary papers

But when it became time

For her to actually have

The procedure she baulked

And began to weep

- – -

Leslie and Cindy

Eventually became parents

And they were overjoyed

Good one. It reads more like a prose and might have remained that way. My silly opinion, nothing against this though.

It’s fortunate that Cindy made the right decision at the final moment. Happy ending for the story of the lovers.
