When I go for a walk I sometimes take a road that has a huge weeping willow. Today, as I stared at it, I kept wondering and asking why is it always so sad? It must be crying for some reason? Maybe it’s crying for all the children that are victims of child abuse, abortion and molestation. What do you think?

Weeping Willow

Willow, willow, willow, weep

In the daylight and as we sleep

Draw the tears from the deep

.

For the children of the earth

For the babies that are hurt

That we smother with our dirt

.

For the nameless, the unborn

The street beggars and the forlorn

From their mothers quickly torn

.

For those killed within the womb

Speedily sent to an early tomb

For in our heart there is no room

.

Why is mankind so unkind?

Why do we hurt a growing child?

Why so much evil in our mind?

.

Don’t we feel the excruciation?

Don’t we hear the suffocation?

Can we live with our justification?

.

Undisturbed, we’re fast asleep

All the tears are yours to keep

Willow, willow, willow, weep

This poem made me sad. I don’t know why people are so cruel.
Anyway, very well-writen and easy to understand poem that brings up things that most people are trying to ignore or forget.

Thank you for sharing this, the most powerful poem by you I have read, it made the tears flow. How we long for the New World when the tears of sadness will be gone and all children are welcome and happy.

Nice relation, but what made you think that the willows weep because of child issues? There are so many global issue. Why did you relate the willow’s sadness to child abuse? just asking..

Alexanderlegend, I think the saddest thing is when innocent children suffer. So many are killed even before they have a chance to breathe fresh air. They are so full of wonder, life and laughter. They should be loved and cuddled and made to feel safe. What kind people are those that hurt them? What kind of people are those that kill them? Do those kind of people even deserve to live?

beautiful words that symbolise the weeping willow tree. you are absolutely right. its branches are always drooping downwards as if it is carrying a huge weight on its shoulders and this poem expresses the pain and torment in our world. i love it all. thanks very much for sharing.
