A narrative poem about exploring how we understand the world.
Head and Heart
By Tony DeLorger © 2011
How do I assimilate truth?
Through the logic that my brain adopts,
or through my heart, my sensory perceptions.
Is that my process of acceptance?
Perhaps what I see through logic,
is purely a foundation for possibility.
In the end belief is taken to task by our hearts,
what we feel is right and just is therefore true.
We are complex beings, filled with fault,
like children never without learning.
How we see is as much about how we feel,
rather than what our experience relates to.
There is no such thing as irrefutable truth,
because there is no definitive truth.
Believing something ‘is’ simply limits it to your understanding,
and the universe will not be limited, nor life.
These terms we use in communication, but life is not static,
and our words change their meaning the more we learn.
It is not pertinent to limit one’s view by definition,
rather surrender to the ineptitude of our thinking.
Life’s more about experience than placing it in a box,
giving it a name and pretending we understand it.
Learning gives us a broader perspective,
not a definitive understanding.
To think we are above our creation is both naive and ludicrous.
