Dedicated to everyone who has been affected by the devastating effects of dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common form of dementia, a serious loss of cognitive ability in a previous unimpaired person. Most often it is diagnosed to people over 65 but has been known to affect the younger generation in Early-Onset Alzheimer’s. In 2006, there were 26.6 million sufferers worldwide but it is predicted to affect 1 in every 85 people globally by the year 2050. By the moderate phase, sufferers may fail to recognize close relatives and long term memory becomes impaired.

My heart remembers you … even though
my mind can’t say your name.
I can’t remember where I know you from
who you were or who I was before you came.
Perhaps we grew up together or maybe we
worked for years side by side. All I
know is that my memory isn’t what it was
but my heart smiles as you walk in the door.
I can’t remember much but I DO know
that I love you and how you make me feel.
My heart senses the feelings that we had
together and the times that we’ve shared.
Today I am happy that you came and when
you leave, my mind will be the same but
I am less lonely that you are here.
I fear that when you leave my heart will
be lost once more as you walk out the door.
So please don’t stop visiting me or
loving me simply because I can’t remember.
You’re a part of me and I’ll always love you.
