If we think there is a heaven
After we are gone,
Or a hell of damnation
Second to none,
Forget not there are here,
While we are still around,
 A heaven and hell
To which we are bound;
Where the sinner it seems
Is touched with the paint
That should be reserved
For the mortified saint;
Where a child of love
Can hardly wait
To attain its legitimate
Heavenly state;
Where the brute force of evil
In its heaven on Earth
Appears to be guaranteed
Freedom and mirth.
The stairway to heaven
Is right here to stay,
Or the slide down to hell,
Whichever is the way.
But the Lord be praised!
He knows too well
Of Earth’s own heaven
And, likewise, hell.
