How can we know when something or someone is really meant for us, or when a carrot is being dangled in front of us to lead us over the cliff?

All I’ve ever wanted

Everything I’ve ever dreamed

Now laid at my feet

Are you the one I prayed for

Or are you the ultimate test

God’s way of showing me what I SHOULD have

Or the devil’s pawn in a treacherous game

Enticing me with what I COULD have

If only I would succumb

I’m torn, conflicted, but oh so curious

You seem perfect, of course

We cannot be tempted unless

We are offered what we want

Do I risk it all for what may

Very well be an illusion

Are you smoke and mirrors

Or are you my destiny

Where you heaven sent

Or am I hell-bound?

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. I want to go to heaven, but I won’t find out until judgement day. Good work!

    Good-job

This poem has contradictory opinions. You say in the poem that everything you ever wanted is laid at your feet, but then later on this is doubted in the poem.

This could be a good piece if it were not for som faulty logic.

loualbert: That’s the whole point of the piece. Sometimes we appear to be offered our very heart’s desires. We may not know if it’s real until we try to hold it in our hands. We also don’t know if there are strings attached – what price we may pay to have what we want.

Great Piece. Life is full of manipulation. “) I feel You.

It’s an excellent poem and poses an age old question at the end like why do we call the third hand on a watch the second hand?

  • Greg Wolford on Oct 16, 2009

Very thoughtful and poignant. Something we all have to deal with, too. Nicely expressed!

Of course the poem expresses confliction.” When you believe in things you don’t understand then you’ll suffer.” Here we have the longing for something attractive to one’s feeling to actually work out, but instead of rationally taking one’s time to become more and more acquainted with the person to make a determination, instead, the mind seems to dwell on mysticism and superstition as a barometer to measure hope that someone turns out to be as we would like them to be by the grace of some invisible power. It fails to acknowledge that the principle herself is a mix of negative and positive and that no matter who she deals with…it will still result in a mix of negative and positive. At any rate, the longer one engages a person over time (intentionally for a long time) the more one can gauge about the compatability of the person…and it does not mean the other person is evil just because they turned out to be someone incompatable with you. And it is still worth a mention that it is possible to talk out some incompatable issues and work them into something acceptable.

Leonardo: Thank you so much for your insightful comments. It’s true that the person is not evil just because they are not what you expected them to be. Many times the grass looks greener on the other side – we arrive to find many bare patches in the lawn.

    Thanks again!

Relationships are like rolling dice. It’s all about taking chances. Nice one, ashan.

  • WriteEditSeek on Oct 17, 2009

I think the difficulty comes because no relationship is all good or all bad, nor is each of us one or the other.
