I worked in hospice for quite a few years. You meet so many great people. I was thinking about a beautiful young woman in particular when I wrote this. She and her partner where very much in love. I will never forget his face…it was a long battle for both of them. I think sometimes when they pass, they still have won. No more pain – much peace!

Wind blows her ebony hair across her smiling face…

She glides into a run…

Her arms drift to her side…

Music…

Secret melodies drift through her mind…

She is running…running…running…

She is nearly free…

She is out of their clutches…

No more pain…

No more needles…

No more sterile rooms, stinking of antiseptics…

She lifts her face to the cloudless blue sky…

She hears the angels calling her…

Her feet lift from the cold Earth…

She is swept into the arms of Gabriel…

Heavens gates welcome her…

Angles welcome her home…

In a cold hospital room the tired man weeps…

Holding her cold hand…

Sadness and relief warring in his drawn features…

His true love pain free…

He kisses her beautiful bald head…

Says his last I love you…

His last good bye…

Until they meet again…

She will be waiting…

At Heavens gates…

Ebony hair around strong shoulders…

Life restored…

A smile just for him…

He sighs…

Gazing upward…

He whispers a sad good bye…

For now…
