This is a poem about the brave soldiers who fought in the first world war. I have always admired them, since I work caring for people who lived through it. I hope that the people reading it can appreciate what these Heroes went through for England. God bless them all.

Mercy, mercy cried the soldier

On the front line of the war

Mercy, mercy please dont shoot me

Make a widow – I implore

I have children waiting for me

Helplessly, with hope in heart

Dont deny them of a father

Dont make me this world depart.

Knowing that you too are fearfull

and like me are skin and bone

Knowing that you too have family

And like me, you yearn for home

Knowing that you loathe this futile

senseless battle – not decreed

Yet understanding honour

and the myth that I am enemy

Only those that stood in line

Can empathise the misery

Only those souls sacrificed mortalities

set England free.
