A poem about the things we leave unsaid and the effect it has on others.
When I read between the lines, what am I supposed to find?
Are you trying to tell me something special or are you aiming to waste my time?
If it’s so important, why can’t you tell me to my face instead of making me search for a piece of paper that I somehow misplaced?
Oh, here it is.
Yes, this might be the one.
I can’t quite tell though as the words are somewhat smudged.
(Are you apologizing for something? Should I be holding a grudge?)
I don’t imagine that it’s that important if you couldn’t write it on the lines.
(Damn you and your hidden meanings that I hardly ever find!)
Still I’ll keep looking because unlike you, time is on my side.
You told me to read your last letter and to read between the lines.
You said the words would explain all your actions and I‘d never again ask why.
So I sit here reading, but no secret message do I find.
All I see are smudges and the words “hello” and “goodbye.”
