A poem I wrote for my grandmother before she died. This one is close to my heart, probably why I have held onto it for years. Most of my poetry is fictional, however; this poem is not.The photo is of my grandmother, myself and daughter just before she died.

Grandmother
You have always been so caring and smart
You have shown me the good things of life
From the start
You have given me the strength
To be who I am now
When I thought you were dying
I did bow
I prayed to Jesus
To extend your years
I trusted in him
To take away the fears
The strength I was given
He gave to you
Falling deep into thought
I knew your life could not be through
I now have a chance to accomplish
Before your eyes
With no more excuses
And no more lies
Encouragement and understanding
You have shown me
I desire to make you proud
For you have known me
Just to know you
My spirit will never grow old
And my trust in God
Will never run cold
I have unlocked the door
For you to see
Humbling myself
To be the best I can be
