HiyaWaffle poem in TROCHEES for With Apologies
to *Henry Wadsworth
Longfellow*
Oh I wish that I was younger
In my twenties or my thirties
Then I wouldn’t need to hunger
For a trim and sylph-like figure
Hunger to be slim and pretty
Like the girls seen on the telly
When I eat my cake.
Oh, I used to do aerobics
In the gym I used to practise
Round and round I used to thunder
Back and forwards I would thunder
Burning up the fat and blubber
From the latest binge of goodies
That I sat and ate.
Though I struggle with the wii-fit
Round and round I hula hoopy
How I wave my arms akimbo!
Like some half-demented bimbo
Though my meals are really tiny
Still my fat bits won’t forsake me
Faithful to the end.
Oh, I know that I’m much slower
Can’t do jogging, hiking, running.
Aching, creaking joints complaining
Heartbeat crashing in my ribcage
beating faster and my breathing
wheezing, coughing, gasping heaving
as my body hits the floor.
Try the face-packs then, the botox
Cover up the flaws and wrinkles
Scarves and make-up, corsets, lipo…..
suction off the excess baggage
Oh the awful excess baggage
Concentrate on active brain cells
Better try and find a few!
