"Holy Spear" is a poem about the legendary Holy Lance or Holy Spear used by Longinus, the roman soldier who pierced Jesus in his side with a lance while he was on the cross. Longinus’ legend grew over the years to the point that he was said to have converted to Christianity after piercing Christ.
Legends of an ancient Holy Spear
Legends that make men, still, tremble and fear
Told in secret to a few selected ones
Legends and echoes of dark terrible battles
Where arrows and spears made thousands of travels
Greeting an ancient spear, passed from fathers to their own sons
Oh how ancient is this Holy spear
Its legend is great and its echo is so clear
Built at first for a terrible purpose
Its first goal was to drown in blood
Not to be lost or set in the mud
No other purpose but to hurt us
Cain was its dark true creator
His purpose… to use it a little later
Oh, how dark and terrible his intentions [1]
Constructed with a sculpted edgy stone and a long stick
The ancient spear was Cain’s most terrible trick
One of his worst and most wicked inventions [1]
[1] Genesis 4: 1-8
When a fallen angel took it from him
Offering it to his son, a Nephilim
Giants battled for the right to own it [2]
[2] Genesis 6: 1, 2, 4
Found by Noah after a deluge
He quickly understood his finding was huge
And when he was no more one of his sons took it [3]
[3] Genesis 9: 28, 29
Abraham too was an heir of the spear
He used it well while he was still here
Using it wisely with understanding and insight [4]
[4] Genesis 14: 1–3, 8-16
The legend of this terrible and ancient spear
It still makes those who hear it tremble and fear
For it is as dark as it is full of light
It kept passing from fathers to their sons
Moses too came to hold it, like all the ancient ones
Practicing battle hits while growing stronger and older [5]
[5] Exodus 2: 11, 12
When selected to keep its legendary secret
You must be quiet and make a vow to keep it
To you I trust this secret, you will be its holder
Still, when God told Moses to replace the spear
He took a staff making Israel tremble with fear [6]
Offering the spear to the son of Nun [7]
[6] Exodus 4: 1-5, 17; Exodus 7: 17; Exodus 8: 16, 17; Exodus 14: 1-31
[7] Deuteronomy 31: 23
To the son of Nun, Moses had spoken
Telling him that this spear shouldn’t be broken
For its legend was old, and true, and a great one
