This is a poem about how I feel about the sea, and now how I am finally home by the sea.

Here I sit on a lone rugged rock,

looking towards the wide distant horizon-

with cool blue skies above me,

and the warm crashing waves around my feet.

The smell of fresh salt air within my lungs

with the sure sign of marine life around me.

Distant cries of children playing come flooding back to my ears,

as I brake my concentration.

A boat makes its way out of the harbour

just as a brief waft of take away food -

of toffee apples and popcorn,

fresh fish cooking.

The sound of an ice cream van

come racing back like childhood memories.

The birds soaring above me

as they seek food for their nesting chicks.

How peaceful and relaxed I am sitting here

gathering my thoughts of days gone by,

staring back towards the seafront promenade

with hotels of many colours.

With scattered houses on cliff tops facing.

The fishermen take time out before high season,

repairing their boats and nets for their next catch.

A place that has many seasons

and is imprinted in the hearts of those who visits.

This place is a magical place

for young and old alike.

I am so content here,

I am home.

I am finally home by the sea.
