Homesick for New Zealand.

Homesick Sonnet

Snow capped mountains pierce the long white cloud.

Heavens beacon calling His majesty.

Tranquil lake feeds raging river so proud.

Through gorge, through plain, toward bitter cold sea.

Winter Rugby, taunting Haka war cry.

Spring lambs, parades, new wine to pass the day.

Summer beach house where the sea meets the sky.

Autumn leaves fall, children frolic and play.

I left, my love, to shores a world away.

I heard softly whispered, “Return, my child.”

Remembering a glimpse of you that day,

I steel my nerves and calm into a smile.

Eyes closed, deep breath, distant journey I roam.

Aotearoa, my heart, my home.
