My first Kentucky derby experience.

I’ve lived here years ago

Yet it the first time I’ve had a Kentucky derby experience

It now only minutes before the start of the race

Everyone is excited at this moment and place

As time grew closer the excitement increases

Everyone thinks they picked a winner

Young and old – Rich and not so rich

Each with a love for the horses soon to run.

It is a rain day but will not stop the race

A muddy track where the condition is sloppy

My hope place on the horse named amazing grace

At the race completion I hope to be happy

Once the race starts and the horse exit the gates

Each one battle for position toward the finish line

Some of the jockeys are striking the horse hind parts

To get the beast to run faster.

There is not clear winning as the horses near the finish line.

Everyone is screaming and yelling

I just want to close my eyes I cannot stand the excitement

Amazing grace is leading the race

As the horses pass the finish line

One after the other

A great day at the races I must say

Horse racing at the derby what a wonderful day

Oh Will, you got me so caught up in this lovely poem I was excited as you!
Amazing Grace is a beautiful name for a horse too. Wish I had thought of it for my horse!
