December 2009. Positive thoughts of scenic Perthshire and the Hermitage beauty spot near Dunkeld, whilst lying in a Ninewells Dundee hospital bed after two operations.

Urology Ward 8 Ninewells:-

Multitude of vents, tubes, drips, oxygen mask -

Glucose, slats, liquid food, via drips/machines;

Nasal tube in to extract gastric bile.

Half in, half out, of consciousness -

Memories of Hermitage visits flowing

Like waterfall and rapids around folly

Dedicated to Celtic bard Ossian.

Sun-dappled pine/fir trees camouflaging

Osprey caught hovering, mid-flight.

Salmon white-water-leaping between two

Boulders; pristine fresh air, sense of

Vitality and Nature.  Jolted back into

The present by morning ward round -

Central-heating-headache, painkiller-groggy;

Hoping for a discharge/expecting long period

Of enforced recovery.  Little to do but await

Better days and Highland Perthshire sojourns.

    Spot the typo, ’slats’ should read ’salts’ (line 3).
