What are we thinking?
Why must we destroy the integrity, the possibilities, of what places like this can be? Are we so caught up in what we perceive to be our status in the eyes of our peers that we have forgotten what it is that brought us here? This, friends, is a writing forum. A place to gather and share things we write with others. To trade ideas, concepts. To argue, to discuss… and to become better at what it is we do. That isn’t to say there won’t be idiots. Idiots are everywhere. But they’re easy to spot, and we don’t need to network with them.
The bottom line is, we are, for the most part, here for the same purposes. Why do we not endeavor to help make our fellow writers become better, and ourselves in the process? The internet in nearly boundless… contrary to popular belief, it is big enough for all of us. Its even big enough that we can all reach out and spread, without destroying the next man! For God’s sake, people, start talking. Work together! The project I mentioned… It was a small project, which, in the scape of the internet won’t really make a ripple. But I’m ok with that. It was fun. (remember that? writing to have fun?) I got to work with good people. We communicated. And, for a brief time, came away as better people, having shared something. So many of us have forgotten that writing is an art. It creates things and images that are beautiful. It enables us to quantify our senses, and share them with others not present. What could be no priceless.
We need to change, and desperately. our society is becoming more and more 1984 by the moment. Before we all become automatized, gain a factual view of life. Realize what forums are capable of being. work in groups. Share knowledge, enjoy and benefit from each others company. Let us stave off, even temporarily, the orwellian loss of our souls for just a bit longer. Writing is an art. We should at least act like we know that.
