I’ve always wondered how fast a dragon could fly. Maybe this teenage girl could tell us.

The whipping wind
The roar of it
Almost tearing her clothes
She rides a great she dragon
Light green with frosty spots
Silvery gold horns and claws
Sparkly white underbelly
A teenage girl and dragon

Over the trees so fast
They sway with the dragon’s passing
Skimming the lake
One wing dips and splashes
Water soaks the girls long white hair
This is great
Flying over a field
As her dapple gray horse races them

They leave the horse way behind
Then suddenly up
Straight up
Going so high
So coldly high
For a moment they are so still
Then they fall
So fast so fast

They see the sun setting
She does not want this day to end
One more time around the valley
But this time around they take their time
Time to go home
Landing by her waiting horse
She gives friend one last hug
Then rides horse home to supper

I love the description, and the words, but the rhythm is off to me. I know it’s free-verse, but I still say them in rythm, and this one doesn’t really have one for me. Maybe try to make more of a pattern in the *length* of the lines? Like, rather than long short long long long short medium long, some sort of pattern that makes it easier to read. You’re a fantastic poet – that’s the only suggestion I have. (:

I like this poem! I like “free verse”! A person can do so many things with it. Thanks for sharing!
