A poem that speaks for military wives.
How much does it cost?
It is your honor and duty to serve
Is it what you really deserve
Most people don’t quite comprehend
Freedom is not easy to defend
It is our love that made me your bride
It is our lives that are forever tied
For those who lead you into war
And those at home keeping score
Before you tell the next mother you meet
Your number of victories versus defeat
And for the widow and the one on the way
How will you replace what was taken away
A husband, a father, a man of his kind
I’m afraid it will be difficult to find
He was the only one meant for me
I hope you can now clearly see
It might be hard for you to believe
That a part of my life had to leave
Don’t worry about being concerned
Just another lesson to be learned
Strength is measured in the number taught
Not in the number of battles faught
If you choose to lead a life
Making a living out of strife
For every war you wage in this world
There is another flag to be unfurled
Another letter another white cross
Another “I’m sorry about your loss”
Do you know what these words really mean
To the faces and families you haven’t seen
What is wrong can’t be made right
Another day without the light
