What makes poetry enjoyable to read? Is it rhyming, the use of an enormous vocabulary, or is it that the poem was written from the poet’s heart? Most poets make the mistake of forcing their poems to rhyme. While this is popular, forcing
your poem to rhyme will only limit the choice of words you can use. Writing the poem from your heart will always make for a good poem. Keep that in mind as you read this poem that I wrote on how to write a poem from your heart.

A poet’s delight:
learning to compose
a poem that empties
from the pits of your bowels.
Your heart,
your soul,
will capture the essence
of the words that you choke on.
Scream with your adjectives,
flounder in the tears,
Let your heart flood the world
with the feelings
that encompass your imagery.
and never give in
to the hopeless souls,
that tell you who you are;
that you aren’t good enough.
Believe with every stanza,
know that your dreams
will carry you through the day.
Define what it means to live,
write from your heart,
and vomit the poem
through the neck of reality.
With every last line,
your thoughts will spur
thousands of images.
and you will have been known
as a poet
that writes from your heart.
