Your name so feminine and motherly but your acts are so heavy with barbarism-We pray against you today.

Hurricane Irene

Your name so feminine and motherly

Yet your deeds are so Masculine and Barbaric

You pound the Eastern Coast

Of America just like your own

Mother Katrina pounded the Western Coast

A couple of years ago

America is weeping at your hands Irene

But you are as relentless as you started off from the Atlantic

Dislodging 2 million people from their homes at short notice

_

Hurricane Irene

New York City is in a fresh wave of mayhem

Just as they were beginning to recover

From the Earthquake after-shocks of last week

We detest you Irene

We pray that the God of mercy should

Neutralize your cruel advance at the Eastern Coast

Our humble prayer will not be said in vain

God shall save America

A very good description of Hurricane Irene. My thoughts and prayers to everyone in the area. I believe this is the first time for New York City, but the worse part is that they had to go through an earthquake as well. Thank God it didn’t hit us here in South Florida, but it’s been raining a lot this weekend. I have been following this hurricane and I really do hope that people follow Mayor Bloomberg’s advice and evacuate as soon as possible. There are still those incredulous people outside surfing who refuse to stay inside.

I wonder why all huricanes are female, does it mean women are that destructive?

A very well expressed poem. I hope Irene’s has reign has come to an end now. Thank goodness she didn’t cause quite as much damage as was expected but I feel for the families who lost loved ones.
