HURRY UP AND SLOW DOWN is an original poem illustrating the futility of acceleration for its own sake, and that sometimes slowing things down and taking it easy can not only be more desirable, but more beneficial as well.
Brain waves map sine graphs
with inordinate frequency,
crests and troughs no longer visible,
collectively symptomatic
of more than just the obvious.
Meanwhile,
for all of those at the mercy of invention,
upgrades promise convenience
ignoring the fine print headache.
Millions troubleshoot
a devil with his microchip pitchfork.
Then, without warning,
stillness…
followed by slow motion—
back to square one.
Speed and hype
no longer significant,
nostalgia becomes the modus operandi,
a walk down memory lane
needs no random access.
