HEAVY SIDE
HYPOCRISY’S CHILD
She sat.
Quietly,
Secure in the midst of her mother’s perfume.
“I’m scared Daddy,”
“You’re a Davis, not a coward.
Only cowards are afraid.”
He turned away.
Her mother’s smile belied deeper feelings.
As the nurse took her child.
And laid her on her face.
“This won’t hurt”
She lied,
And the child didn’t tell her.
She locked the child in a cage,
The ceiling raced by.
As the child scream hysterically
“Don’t let them hurt her!
Please, don’t let them hurt my mother!”
Two men in green took her cage.
She named them’ Puppy Eyes’ and ‘The Other’.
‘Puppy Eyes’ unlocked her cage,
Carried her away,
Laid her on a big black table.
‘The Other’ took her arm.
“This won’t hurt,”
He lied.
And she didn’t tell him.
Over and over,
Again and again.
He hurt her.
She couldn’t cry-she was a Davis.
He grabbed her other arm.
And started again,
Over and over,
Again and again.
He hurt her.
The lump in her throat,
Stuck,
Like a white hot coal.
“Enough!”
Said ‘Puppy Eyes,’
“Hand me the mask,”
The hissing snake came at her,
she tried to move,
The Other’ held her down.
