A poem about being hurt by friends and ones you love. Could also be lyrics. Inspired by the song “I Am a Rock” by Simon and Garfunkel.

I’ve built many barriers

Too strong to be broken

And I’m safe

And never to be seen

I am an ocean,

I am a mountain.

Don’t try to love

It’s something I deplore

It’s something that is evil

For love just causes pain

If I hadn’t loved, nothing would’ve hurt me

I am an ocean,

I am a mountain.

I seek no reconciliation,

For kindness is a lie

It’s deceitful and something I disdain

I am an ocean,

I am a mountain.

Make friends no more

For so called friends are very hurtful

They deceive and break you down

Make you feel miserable, turn your life to hell

Friendship and loyalty, they disgust me

I am an ocean,

I am a mountain.

There’s no one that I can talk to

No one I can trust,

I trust no one and no one believes me

I am an ocean,

I am a mountain.

For love causes pain

And kindness is a lie

But an ocean feels no pain;

And a mountain never cries

    Hello All,

I’m interested if you think this is better as a song or as a poem. Additionally, which do you like better, my version or the original version by Simon and Garfunkel? Responses to these questions or
any feedback would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks for reading,

Interesting! Hm…I honestly haven’t heard the original version, but your piece was an interesting read. (Not very helpful, I know, and I’m sorry about that.)

It’s probably better as a…song, mostly because of your format- that and I could hear a slow folk song going on in my head. :)

Nice piece though, seriously- I honestly couldn’t say which one I like better (as I haven’t heard the original), nice job!

I’d love it as a song. I could hear it on the radio with great background music. I like it right now as a poem. Thanks for sharing.

Wow….there’s a lot of pain behind this. Well done though.

Strong emotions Glass. I would love to hear this piece as a song!

Beautifully spoken, I think sometimes people think this but won’t say it, truly awesome!!

I think it makes a better song.
Can’t really compare to S&G, as I’m biased toward them: if I were to hear your piece sung, all that could change!
    Very nice.
    Thanks,
    Clay
