September 11 Poem.

I am Still America

I always wondered why
on 9/11 I seem to look
smoggy, slimy, sticky,
gooey, grimy, gritty, gummy, gaudy,

haughty, yet haggled,
mangled, managed, mugged, muted, molested,

protested, putrid, puss-laced, pitted, palsied, pasty,
plied with lime,

listless, limp, lumpy, loopy, loaded, lamented,
demented, dogged, disgusted, diseased, drained, dingy, damp,
cramped, crazed, crooked, creepy, caustic, cored, corroded,
-not canceled out,

rode out, ripped out, run out, reamed out, ragged out,
tuned out, timed out, turned out, tricked out,
hung out, hoed out,
blown out,

bloated, busted, bumpy, beaten,
beastly battered,

-and burned to the damn ground.

Yet, I am STILL America
