This poem reflects the ongoing desire and aspiration of so many that wanted a better life here in America. I wrote this poem as a tribute and reminder to so many that wanted to live their lives as they see fit within the means of the law. It is very important to understand that this iconic friendship gesture work of art was given to us by France on October 28, 1886 as a gift to celebrate our 100th anniversary of Freedom and every since then, the Statue of Liberty has been an iconic symbol of freedom and democracy the world over. Emma Lazarus summed it up in her poem, “The New Colossus”.

I welcomed everyone with open arms
Far and near, regardless of where they’re from
My torch has been lit to guide the way
To a better life and brighter day
All you have to do is take a stand
For I am the mother of this great land.
From our forefathers who wanted a better life
It came so sudden but not without strife
There was so much to do and lots to gain
Overcoming trials and tribulations that brought on pain
Wars had to be conquered, people wanted to be grand
For I am the mother of this great land.
Anyone of your parents, I might’ve met
Coming from an impoverish country, most were in debt.
No money, no food; no where to turn
No looking back now or they’ll get burn
They had to do what was needed to be a part of this band
For I am the mother of this great land.
I’ve welcomed many so heed my call
One by one, all and all
You’re safe right now, you’ll forever be
A great big part of this family
This is your opportunity to be a great friend;
For I am the mother of this great land
