I often watch some of my female friends like BC Doan, Anne Garner-Lyken, and Jeanne Matthews to name just a few, and am truly amazed at their resilience and strength. I am inspired and glad that I belong to this gender. We are remarkable, and I would not be surprised if they kept a Wonder Woman cape in their closets.
We hold our children to our breast
Comfort, guide, and give them rest
We go to work and do our best
Though we’re often overstressed
Our pay does not match up to men’s
Where theirs starts is where ours end
The same goes for our work at home
We work our fingers to the bone
“A woman’s work is never done
She works from dawn to setting sun”
Hug the children, wash the dishes
Try to appease and grant their wishes
Raise them strong and raise them wise
Search the stores for the best buys
Prepare meals to feed them well
If you’re lucky, sit down a spell
Check homework papers, coach little league
Patch and bandage wounded knees
Read them stories, teach them prayers
Running up and down the stairs
To calm fears and chase night mares
Dust off the cape – it’s hanging there
And before
You call me square
I’ll fess up. I know I am
I am woman. Yes, I am!
