A boy saved by the thought of his father.
I was walking in the hallway,
When it first pushed me down.
I brushed myself off, and continued on,
I hung a little lower.
Then, at the gym while I admired my progress in the mirror,
It struck me again, this time leaving a bruise for days.
I hung a little lower, one foot on the edge.
In the presence of my love it tripped me, then trampled me,
I’ll now have scars for life.
I hung lower still, and it now wobbles.
I don’t have many of the things of which I’ve dreamed,
I’ve scribed my love on parchment, love eternal.
I hang now, falling, I kicked the chair from under me.
My knees buckled and the necklace slack… My feet must have hit the floor,
I look down; I’m standing on your shoulders.
Your absence always a trademark in my life.
I’ll always love you, Dad.
