A mother loses her husband Geneva in the war in Afghanistan while bemoaning the fact that he always believed that he would be protected by angels.
I cried and cried
When you slipped away
“Oh!” I sighed
“What a sad day!”
- – -
You died on me
How could that be
For it was gory
Although folks
Honored your glory
- – -
It was through
A fatal wound
That you received
While fighting
In Afghanistan
Where you hunkered
Down to take a stand
- – -
“Where are the angels now”
I wailed
For you always believed
As you fought
That they would
Protect you
- – -
Geneva you felt
Your life was a charm
And there would be no harm
- – -
Now you’re gone
I’ve become a widow
