A poem about remorse and regret after an unintentional error.

It was unintentional,

but it happened all the same.

I didn’t know it would play out like this,

And now I carry the blame.

I can’t say enough how sorry I am;

I offer myself for the kill.

I can’t make it better at this point,

There is not enough gesture of goodwill.

I know you’ll try to defend me,

But that’s not what I want.

Your family needs you now

And we both know it can’t be put off.

So let me take my penance,

Let me take the pain

I would take it ten times over,

If it would make it go away.

I’m so, so sorry.
