Computers sometimes make me want to tear my hair out, but usually it is my own fault.

*

I must say I’m feeling red faced,

As when trying some poetry to write,

My computer crashed without warning

And my efforts disappeared from sight.

*

I wondered what could be the matter

As I searched for faults all around,

But nothing I did made a difference,

A solution just could not be found.

*

I fiddled with it for an hour or two.

My stress levels now were quite high.

I knew the time had finally come

And a new computer I had to buy.

*

Oh where was I to get the pennies

That would pay for this desperate need?

In order to buy a computer

My hubby I couldn’t feed.

*

Gallantly he agreed to cut back

On spending for a week or two,

And I put on my coat and grabbed my bag

As some computers we had to view.

*

At the last moment I decided

To take my old laptop along,

In the hope that maybe someone

Could tell me what was wrong.

*

Well I spent quite a long time untangling

All the wires that were lying about,

Then I went to pull plug from the adaptor

To my shame it was half hanging out.

*

I couldn’t believe my stupidity

And I plugged it in as tight as could be,

And the computer came on and is working

Just as well as it ever could be.

  • Brewed Coffee on Apr 15, 2011

Amusing story. It happens even to the tech savvy at times, believe me. :-) So don’t feel bad.

  • Eunice Tan on Apr 15, 2011

    Well written as always.

  • Sourav on Apr 15, 2011

Glad your laptop doesn’t have any serious issue. I understand how it feels when you write poetry and the computer crashes to erase all the unsaved writing. So, it’s better save frequently to avoid this type of accident. Nicely written poem. Very sweet.

  • Edsss on Apr 15, 2011

Amazing! :) It happens to everyone else, I guess!

  • Anuradha Ramkumar on Apr 15, 2011

Good to hear that the problem was due to adaptor not plugged properly. You really write amazing and amusing content.

  • Erin Miller on Apr 15, 2011

Amusing poetry. I had a similar experience last year as I thought I had my computer plugged in and couldn’t figure out why it wouldn’t turn on. The next day I found I had plugged in my flattening iron and not my computer. lol You’re not alone.

  • petercurtis97 on Apr 15, 2011

Yes! just like others have said it happens to most or all of us at sometime. sometimes a computer will tell you a problem such as loose plug or wiring as in my case where internet was not connected i needed to check the plugs as well.

This is really funny. I could only imagined the frustration you were feeling only to find out that you were felled by a plug that was half hanging out.

Amusing and witty poem, Christine. Sometimes what we think are big problems are actually not problems at all. :D

  • Guy Hogan on Apr 15, 2011

It has happened to all of us. The best rule of thumb is to check the plug first.

  • jimbob1 on Apr 15, 2011

CR…you must have a very light touch, because I never even felt you touch me!!! Now that I’ve got that straight, I better go and read and see what this is all about!!! Thanks and take care…

  • jimbob1 on Apr 15, 2011

Oh CR…and here I thought you were talking about me when you said you “felt such a twit”…when in actual fact you were just explaining a new definition for the word “twit” herein meaning “adapter plug-in cord”…You felt such a twit and your computer came back to life!!! I voted that I liked your poem and especially your new definition for the term/word “twit”…jolly good…wonder if we will see that in next years new version of Oxford Dictionary as in (TWIT – a computer adapter cord – CR)??? Thanks and take care…

  • Starpisces on Apr 16, 2011

Love this poem.. so true, we can be stressed when our PC don’t function well, especially after joining Triond, the stress level goes up… you expressed this so well, Christine. You always make me think that writing poem is an enjoyment in life, we can just write on any topic and yet it’s acceptable.
    ;)

  • Cynthia Bartlett on Apr 17, 2011

oh my word. That happened to my family a long time ago. They bought a Tandy Computer, and on a hunch changed out the connecting cables and it worked just fine. I bought a car and was constantly asked how it was running, well one day I smelled a burning rubbery smell, the mechanic called me to the shop “you’ve got to see this to appreciate it” the smell was coming from a rubber coated flash light that had got stuck somewhere near the motor. It ran fine til an impatient lady hit. ( she didn’t wait for me to completely get out of the way)

  • papaleng on Apr 17, 2011
