Written after the end of an abusive relationship with a man with narcissistic personality disorder.
You are caught in a non stop
Game of play pretend
A constant psychodrama
that seems to never end
You try on different roles
hero or victim just the same
Just so its all about you
You’re the star of your own game
I’ve got you figured out
because its all about you
Every word is so self serving
Everything that you do
is to puff yourself up
and make yourself feel better
while you belittle other people
and whack your little pecker
You know everything and
your gonna save the us all
And then we’ll all kiss your ass
And you’ll be center of it all
As long as you look wonderful
and everyone cheers
because thats what its all about
but I know your greatest fears
I know what you hide from
I know what you can’t face
It’s the nothing that you are
That nobody would embrace
And so you hide yourself
behind your little masks
And play your little games
Creating glory in which to bask
You get a chain letter
And pretend you are a star
Follow poor young girls around
and suck dry all they are
You just want your friends to think
you’re hot and all that
They will sure admire you after
she talked to you like that
You puff yourself up until
I think you’re gonna pop
then you stomp around putting others down
It’s a load of shit
a crock
I can see you for what you are
and now I see the light
I won’t deprive your play pretend
But I see your next victim’s plight
Just because you repeat her life
doesn’t make you a part of it
And your friends that feed your ego
ought to tell you the truth or shove it
or maybe I’m the only one
who sees you for who you are
It took me long enough to figure
It’s all about you being a star
Your game of play pretend
your whole life is a stage
Your entire self is masks
and that’s why you stomp and rage
Because anything that bursts
your delicate bubble
of inflated ego
is going to get trouble
you’ll do anything
to keep it feeling real
that you’re really something
reality can’t be revealed
anyone that threatens that
could destroy your whole game
because your world is pretend
your real self and life is lame
and so anyone that stops the play
must have hell to pay
you will thrash and attack anyone
who has anything to say
that gets in your way
That unbearable despair you feel
becomes all their fault
when you are forced to face reality
when your game is called.
It takes more than a shirt
to make a hero real
It takes more than a mask
to make a man that feels
I see the creature you are
through all your nasty rants
I should pity you
but after all you’ve done
I can’t
