Poem on the imagined thoughts of a “deprived” but intelligent 11-year-old boy in New Orleans.

Overlooking the levee, inside an old run-down

New Orleans 2nd-floor apartment, rusty,

Dilapidated iron grille securing/entrapping

11-year-old Jordan, daydreaming on

His future – High School, College graduate,

Space shuttle engineer – Cape Canaveral,

Getting married, family, driving a Ferrari.

John Lennon’s Imagine lodged inside his

Brain, alongside inspiring speeches, Martin

Luther King: “I have a dream”, Barack Obama:

“Yes we can”.

Thoughts turning to political ambitions -

Democrat Senator, perhaps even President.

Contemplation interrupted, his mother calling

On him to join the dinner table, Cajun chicken.
