I was listening to some old music and this one particular story inspired me to write. We can gap our future to the mistakes of the past presently.

Sitting down thinking
And for some reason
A song popped in my head
“What’s going on” Marvin Gaye said
That was awhile ago
But it still got me wondering
We are now years into the future
And we still don’t know
What’s going on
See
We
Have become the blanket generation
That hides under blankets of ignorance
Pretending things don’t exist
For our own selfish
Reasons we have lost our heart and
Our drive for progression

Many mothers are still crying
Cause their sons are dying
In the war and in the streets
We are losing
Brothers, sisters, cousins
And many others
In this war against terror and
The every day struggle of staying alive
Is getting harder
And I just keep hearing Marvin say
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today
And yet we only spread hate
At an even higher rate
Than those before us
The family structure
Is collapsing
Got a serious case of
Babies making babies
Fathers absent in the home
Mothers left all alone
To give birth and raise
Our nation
We’ve lost our sense of responsibility
Our eyes we cover
With designer frames
To escape the severity
Of our actions
See it is us
That turns our reality
Into a nightmarish dream
And I just keep hearing Marvin say
Oh you know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some understanding here today
