A poem I wrote out of inspiration from reading “”Caged Bird” by Maya Angelou.
A free bird flies on and on
But my dreams are forever gone
Can’t see past, my bars of rage
The days spent here are lonely days
I miss the time that I was free
I miss the time that I was me
Can’t understand, what’s going on
So I open my mouth to SCREAM
My screams are drowned out, by the empty night
The free bird wakes up, at first light
Stretches his wings and rides the wind
But I still sit here, without a friend
I want for a family
Yet, what exactly is a family?
I don’t understand, and I open my mouth to SCREAM
The free bird eats worms on the green grass lawn
But I’m tired of living, on and on
Everyday’s the same
Couldn’t get more lame
How long, how long? Will I ride downstream?
I still don’t know, So I open my mouth to SCREAM!
