Despair surrounds us, but there is hope – just believe!

I LIVE ON!

They broke and wore out my bones,

     And dislocated my joints,

My blood and substance spilled on the ground,

     Tears flowed from my face,

I was beaten and trodden upon,

     My head ached from abuse,

Finally, they put me in the ground,

They were sure they’d finished me,

But as the last of the sodden earth,

Covered up my face and eyes,

I heard a small, bold voice,

     Say aloud, ‘Hope is alive!’

I stirred anew, and groped upwards,

     Crawling out of my grave,

For them I am still alive,

I live through one who yearns,

I am freedom!
