A glimpse of the beginning of my Army Wife Life right before my Soldier deployed to Iraq.
“I Married a Soldier”
I married a Soldier
A Cav Scout, at that
Dress Greens at our wedding
I loved the big hat!
I said it’s a job
he looks good in BDU’s
I worked full-time
and didn’t watch the news
Six weeks later
I slept in our bed
still blissfully glowing
a happy newlywed
The phone was ringing
I awoke with a start
“turn on the TV”
the sight broke my heart
“Everything’s chaos
we’re locked down on post”
the Towers have fallen
they hit the East Coast
My daughter came in
“What’s that on TV?”
Go put in a movie
she’s too young to see
And I’m numb
I’m numb
I maried a Soldier
Tears on the line
my Mom’s falling apart
“You married a Soldier”
war’s going to start
“Going Somewhere to do Something”
the rush, the hurry
he left in green
relax, don’t worry
Six months passed
pack up and go
“They deploy a lot in Germany”
I know, I know
Our feet hit the ground
and the clock starts to tick
Kosovo in 6 months
I want to be sick
He’s away and we go to war
six months is now nine
but he’s safe, he’s safe
he’ll be just fine
And I’m numb
I’m numb
I married a Soldier
Home at last
but rumors abound
mandatory 6 months
back here on the ground
And the weeks pass
train, run, go, do
prepare to deploy
“Six months and I’ll barely see you!”
Picked up his DCU’s
patches are all sewn on
after the holidays
my Scout will be gone
And I cry
I cry
I married a Soldier
