A dark poem about obsession, possession, and crimes of passion.
I met you at a River,
Both of us on opposite banks.
My spine gave an involuntary shiver,
And I offered God my thanks.
You were exactly what I was looking for,
Tawny and dark like a secret.
The fabled beauty of myth and lore
Who could fly away like an Egret.
We chased each other in the endless Fall,
You eternally aloof.
You said that I had your love, that you gave it all,
But I never had any proof.
I chased your love down every dark maze you led me,
Pursuing a dream that enraged my mind.
I wanted your heart but again you fooled me,
Your body being the only gift of its kind.
Your sweet body was true,
But your demon’s heart was not.
I had a plan to catch you.
Would you love me once shot?
The deed is now done, my dear.
Can you love me once dead?
I might not have your heart,
But I still have your head.
