I discover my lover’s plan to leave and it really affects me, but I don’t let it show, making him think I am fine with it and will be fine.
I sink to the bottom
as if I were a rock.
My head is whirling
from the knock.
I am breathless
from the jolt,
and of course
you are going to bolt.
Discovering your plan,
I think less of you as a man.
Working hard
has not been as lucrative
as I would have liked,
but I can do what I must
and keep in line
with what is just.
I may be left,
but I won’t be left stranded
and will never be branded.
Go, do your thing.
Do what you think
this will bring.
This was a shock
to my system,
but he is not to know,
how very low
I truly feel.
He won’t get
the satisfaction
of knowing for real.
My livelihood will be fine
and what is mine is mine.
Take care, and I mean that,
but you are not taking the cat.
The car is mine,
you didn’t pay a dime,
and I reiterate that I was going
to be just fine.
I tell him to go fix his own dinner,
cause he just left a winner.
