Poem for nanny.

I remember… flour sifted through a sifterand baked into fresh loaves of breadbutter melting on topto make a crispy crustand the best baked bread I ever had
I remember…scrabble tiles on a game boardspelling out good wordsand getting closebut never quite winningagainst your fine scrabble intellect
I remember…bed time snacksof toast with peanut butter and brown sugaror cup-of-soup in a mugspoon taken out of the spoon jaron the kitchen table
I remember…sneaking into the gardento pull out fresh carrotsrinsing the dirt with the garden hoseand munching the biggest and bestfrom grandpa’s garden
I remember…sharing my first cups of teawith you and grandpahis poured into the saucer to cooland pantry molasses cookiesor other home-baked goodies for a snack
I remember…running into the kitchenlooking for a spoonto stir our witches brew or other concoctionsof sawdust, dirt, flowers and waterstirred into your good metal wash tub
I remember…chasing and collecting frogs galoreinto the same metal washtubfrom the puddles in the front yardafter a warm summer rainand frogs were a joy
I remember…so many beautiful thingsand none of them even half as beautifulas you were to methe sweetest lady i knewmy grandmother…my NAN (nanny)
