Poem about a person who gets a good glimpse of who they are and decides they aren’t worth being seen.

I saw myself,
And God be damned,
I hated it.
I saw myself,
As the sun
Spread its sickly light
Behind me.
I saw myself,
As I have always been,
As I will always be
No matter how much
I strive to change.
I saw myself,
A shadow on the wall.
No detail in me.
No personality.
Oh, I can pretend
Not to live in my head,
Not to close myself
To family and friends.
But I know who I am,
Who I’ve always been.
A shadow on the wall.
A god damned
Shadow on the wall.
I saw myself,
So please lower the shades,
And block out the sun,
So I won’t have to see me again.
