God works in and through people of all ages.

I was approached on Christmas eve by a young man at our church holding a beautiful Christmas gift bag.  This boy is the eldest son in a family that we know well.  We have served in ministries with his parents, have spent time outside of church with them, but we don’t know all of the children real well, so I thought it a bit odd, yet touching, that his Dad sent him to give me this gift…

The boy made sure that I understood I was to wait to open it on Christmas day with the rest of the family, and I was to open the card on the outside first.

Seriously?  Yeah…if you know me AT ALL, you know that I am NOT one for waiting…it is TORTURE!!

 But I did.

…for a while.

“rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;”  Romans 12:12

I must confess here.  I didn’t actually wait until Christmas day.  I’m sorry!!  Apparently I should have continued a bit more steadfastly in prayer over this, but… after the Christmas Eve service, we had plans to go to a friend’s house for a late dinner and fellowship, but when we got out to the van, it wouldn’t start.

At all.

Literally, the key would not turn.  We prayed, and continued to try for a good 10 minutes.  While we were sitting there, it occurred to me that perhaps this was an I Spy God moment…maybe God was orchestrating this.  The whole family was together, it was nice and quiet, there were no distractions…it was a perfect time to open the gift.

So I pulled the card out of the envelope and began reading.  It penned beautiful words praising God for bringing our family to Hillcrest, etc…

Whoa.

As I read, I noticed some scribbles and a few mis-spelled words, and again thought it odd, yet sweet, that the parents had the kids write the card which read…

“We know that your year was difficult in many ways.  So what we did is we took some money out of our savings account for you.  We hope you desire to spend it in any way possible.  But spend it in a way that is pleasing to God. Next, what we did is we created a verse out of Legos.  It isn’t much but we do with what we can.  The verse reads Matt 6:31.  It says this:
