A “Whitney” Poem.

I took time
to watch you wait–
wait for what
you could not touch.
Looking back
over the years,
I wish I had waited too.

Author’s Note: The ‘Whitney’ poem consists of 7 lines with the the following syllable count per line: 3-4-3-4-3-4-7. It was created by Betty Ann Whitney, who gave her name to this form. It is a syllabic poem – one stanza of seven lines, using 28 syllables in total.
